Connect with clay at one of our many learning opportunities.  Lessons are offered for everyone from the most novice student to the quite accomplished artist. Single session classes at several local venues are offered on a regular basis and are a great way to meet clay for the first time. Any single session class can also be set up as a private party for your group.  Multi-session classes are offered at the Seymour studio and are suitable for first time clay students and more experiences potters.  Both hand building and wheel thrown pottery classes are offered as multi-sessions.

Class fee covers the cost of clay (up to 10 lbs), use of tools/stamps/etc to carve and add texture, firing, and final glazing and firing with delivery. Pots can be shipped for an additional fee. The drying, firing, and glazing process takes a minimum of 3 weeks and may take up to 8 weeks depending on the project.

This hand thrown piece makes a great addition to any décor. You can use the finished pottery to chill wine, house your wooden spoon collection, or for something else completely awesome.  This piece also makes a great gift – personalize art for that person who has everything!  Add your own handmade touch with your choice of a single letter, a monogram, or a graphic design.  We will use class time to decorate the basic cylinder with carving and added elements.  You can choose up to two glazes for me to apply after the first firing.  Additional glaze colors can be purchased for $3 per color the day of class.  This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

fairy garden houses (set of 2)

Wednesday, May 24 | 6:30-8:00 pm | single session | $34 Fee

Add a little magic to your garden, indoors or out. No green thumb needed!  Make a set of little houses perfect for fairies and many other magical creatures.  Each person will get blank mini houses thrown on the wheel by me to customize and beautify however they want.  Choose from stamps, doors, windows, roof styles, garden accessories, and more to personalize this project.  I will fire each house, then apply up to two glaze colors of your choice, then fire again.  This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

kids’ class

Need something new and different for your kiddos to do?  Come make a pretty little rainbow dish!  Kids ages 8 & up are welcome with an adult.  Each ticket is good for one dish, so if you both want to make one, please purchase 2 tickets!  These handy little dishes are dishwasher and microwave safe once they are finished, so you will get tons of good out of your unique creation.  Other colors available for those who don’t need the whole rainbow!  This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

Roses are red, violets are blue, why make one vase when you can make two!  Fill them with flowers, or create a unique gift and add fun fillers like paint brushes, pens, or pencils!  Choose from building your own slab vases or embellishing a set that was thrown on the wheel.  Tons of stamps, textures, and tools are available to use for making your own masterpieces.  Vintage doilies make great texture and have a hundred.  You can choose up to 2 glazes for me to apply after the first firing.  Additional glaze colors are available to purchase the day of class for $3.  This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

Everyone needs a little dish to hold their favorite treasures.  Whether you collect rocks or diamond rings, make a set of unique trinket dishes to keep everything safe. These also make a wonderful gift for that friend who is always losing her favorite earrings. These are food safe, as well, so serve that dessert in style. Each person will get a clay slab to make a set of two dishes. Many shaped stencils and cutters will be available – there’s more to life than round plates! You pick up to 2 glazes for me to apply after the first firing. This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary. Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

handbuilt vases / containers

Modern or rustic, these hand built pottery pieces can be made in exactly your style. Each person will get a clay slab to produce a container to use for just about anything.  The finished piece can be used indoors or out and will be weather resistant to all but the most brutal chill/thaw cycles.  This piece is also microwave and dishwasher safe.  This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

candle holder/planter

We all have a favorite candle or house plant – let’s make a beautiful piece of pottery to display it in! You carve the design of your choice into this hand thrown cylinder. You can take a lot of creative license here – choose from one of the design templates provided, or create your own work of art. This piece also works great to hold a potted plant! We will take 1-2 hours to decorate the basic cylinder with carving and stencils. Choose up to two glazes to for me to apply after the first firing. Additional glaze colors are available for purchase during class for $3 each.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.  Pottery will be at The Perfect Pair for pick up.

ornaments / gift tags / coasters

Add the perfect finishing touch to your tree or gifts with handmade ceramic ornaments.  These can also be made as coasters – just don’t make a hole!  We will use one to two hours to cut and decorate your 8″ square slabs with your choice of carving, imprints, etc.  The finished project is very durable, even weather proof through all but the most terrible freeze/thaw cycles.  You will pick a glaze for me to apply after the first firing. This class does involve some hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary. Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.  Tickets must be purchased 24 hours in advance to ensure adequate materials for all students.

mugs

coming soon | 6:30-8:30 pm | single session | $34

Nothing says cozy like a beautiful mug full of your fave warm drink.  Mine is always filled with hot cocoa and of course, marshmallows.  Create one or two mugs (1 – $19, 2 – $29) by adding stenciled designs, free hand carving, or using other great imprinting tools provided by me.  One mug will take about an hour, two should take you about 2 hours.  You will pick up to 2 glazes for me to apply after the first firing.  Additional glaze colors may be purchased during class for $3 per color.   This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.

One mug will take an hour or so, but if you want to stay longer and make two, please choose the “TWO mug” ticket for $29.

house no. / garden message plaque

This hand built piece makes a great addition to your home or garden. Each person will get approximately 14”x14” of clay slab to produce a sign in their own style.  The finished piece will be weather resistant to all but the most brutal chill/thaw cycles, and can be hung outdoors for most of the year.  This piece also makes a great gift – personalized art for that person who has everything!  Add your own handmade touch with your choice of a single letter, a monogram, or a graphic design. leaf imprint plate sets

Create a beautiful set of plates using natural leaves. Each person will get approximately 8”x8” of clay slab to produce plates in their own style.  Leaves for imprinting will be provided, or you can bring your own.  The number of plates you can make depends on the size of leaves or other imprint material you use.  We will focus mainly on carving and adding texture in this class, and you will pick a glaze for me to apply after the first firing. This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.  Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time. Class size – 20

stenciled serving piece

This hand thrown piece makes a great addition to any table. Designed as a serving piece, it holds about 1.5 quarts and is oven safe.  It can also be used for a planter, vase, or to hold your favorite collection of paint brushes.  This piece also makes a great gift – personalized art for that person who has everything! Add your own handmade touch with your choice of a stencils, a phrase, or a graphic design. We will use class time to decorate the basic shape with underglazes.  I will then finish them in clear glaze after the first firing.  You can also carve your piece and then pick a glaze for me to apply after the first firing. This class does involve some hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary. Firing and glazing to finish the piece will result in a 3-4 week delivery time.  Tickets must be purchased 24 hours in advance to ensure adequate materials for all students.

wind chimes

coming soon | single session | $34 Fee

Cut out and carve, texturize, and paint your choice of shapes for a gorgeous and harmonious wind chime. You may choose from bird, feather, fish, or leaf stencils or create your own unique design.  Each person will get approximately 8”x 8” of clay slab and will cut out up to 8 chimes, then decorate them. There will be drying time for the clay during which we will paint the top wooden piece that holds the chimes. You choose between a bar or a circle. The $34 class fee covers the cost of clay, use of tools/stamps/etc to carve and add texture, underglazes, firing, and stringing of chimes. Pieces can be shipped for an additional fee. The drying, firing, and glazing process takes a minimum of 3 weeks. This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary.

hand building multi – sessions

as scheduled by YOU | multi-session | $25 / class Fee

Learn many hand building skills and perfect your technique.  More information will be posted soon. This class does involve hand-building techniques but no experience with pottery is necessary. Class size – 6 students max per session

  • For your first class, just bring yourself in clothes that can get a little muddy. I will provide clay, tools, and know-how.
  • Classes are 90 minutes of instruction and work time (you may arrive 30 minutes early to prep your clay and stay 30 minutes after to clean up your tools).
  • I provide the first 10 pounds of clay. You will be using 1-2 lb chunks to begin with, so this should last you for several classes. Additional clay is $20 for 25 lb. You may store it at the studio.
  • Basic tool kits are available for purchase for $6, or you can buy your own locally or online.
  • You may borrow any of my specialized tools, but they must be cleaned and returned prior to the end of class.  If you use them routinely, I will ask you to purchase your own.
  • Class cost: $25 per class or $125 for 6 classes. Payment is due at the time of sign-up (or time of first of 6 class sign-up).
  • You must take at least one class per week or 4 classes per month.

wheel thrown multi – sessions

as scheduled by YOU | multi-session | $25 / class Fee

Learn wheel thrown pottery techniques.  More info will be posted soon.  No experience with clay is necessary. Class size – 2 students max per session

Hone your skills and make more beautiful pottery during open studio time.   There is no guaranteed instruction during open studio – you determine what you want to work on.  If you are at a stage in a project where you will need help, please sign up for class time.  Class size – 6 students max per session

  • Open studio time is a great way to practice once you’ve mastered the basics of either hand building or wheel thrown pottery.
  • Open studio time can be signed up for in 1 hour increments.
  • Up to 6 students (2 wheel and 4 hand building) can sign up for the same studio time – so you may not be alone with your creative thoughts!
  • I am not always available for open studio time, so if you think you’ll be needing assistance, please sign up for class time.
  • Open studio cost: $85 per month.  Payment is due at the time of sign-up for first studio time slot.
  • See schedule below of available open studio times.
  • Firing costs are not included in open studio times and will be charged separately.  Firing cost grid is available in studio.

Cancellations: To make this an amazing experience for you, we invest significant time and energy preparing for each class. Please cancel as soon as you know you will not be able to attend.  Since we have a limited number of seats to offer we ask you to give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel. This provides us an opportunity to fill the space. Cancellations should be made by email at piperpottery@gmail.com. If it is 48 hours or more prior to class, you can request a refund (minus processing fee). If it is less than 48 hours, you can transfer the reservation to another person. Cancellations not transferred to another person and made less than 48 hours prior to the start of the class will not be refunded.  Classes may be subject to cancellation based on low number of enrollments.
